Summary: The present study provides reflections on museum themes, contemporary art and city made from the study of the Rio Art Museum - MAR and it is subdivided into three analysis axis. The first axis, "MAR and the Center of Rio de Janeiro", points out issues regarding the location of the museum in urban redevelopment project Porto Maravilha; while the second axis, "Art Museums", examines aspects of exhibition spaces and their relationship t the art work, with the spectator and cities. The third and last axis, "MAR and contemporary art", examines the curatorial proposal of the museum and its relationship with the city.
