Summary: This thesis aims to bring up a reflection upon the fat body in contemporary art, based on the artistic project of Elisa Queiroz and Fernanda Magalhães. Both use their own images as a starting point in productions that allow intertwined discussions involving art, hegemonic discourses, gender and politics. Queiroz and Magalhães reveal the possibility of amplitude of looking to others through art and their own bodies reflected in different supports and surfaces. At first, we seek a contextualization of corpulence in the area of art, history, medicine and social sciences and present the recurrence of fat body as an image generator in the projects of different artists in the contemporaneity. Further, we present the works of Elisa Queiroz and Fernanda Magalhães, articulating with a multidisciplinary bibliographic review which allows a better understanding about the games of power, situation of gender and Queer studies. The results reveal art as a kind of extension of these bodies that seeks a free place, or at least distance, from exclusion and show that these practices can be taken as a quest to give voice to the silenced and oppressed
