Summary: This study focuses on analyzing the inclusion and representation of black artists in institutional artistic spaces in Greater Vitória, Espírito Santo. The research reveals a marked absence of black voices in these places, a fact that raises questions about the impact, even if discreet, of the presence of black artists in such spaces in changing this unfavorable reality. This work's main objective is to investigate and elucidate the presence of black artists in the region's artistic circuit, addressing the difficulties they face in terms of visibility and representation. The study delves into the analysis of the individual trajectories of these artists, their struggles for visibility and the way in which the category of "black art" is constituted and socially perceived, in addition to the process of legitimizing their works in the artistic context. The research includes methods such as bibliographic review, qualitative interviews and narrative analyses, in addition to examining documents related to the artistic production of these artists. A special emphasis is given to the uniqueness of the works of black artists from Espírito Santo, seeking to illuminate their unique experiences and artistic expressions in the artistic scene of Greater Vitória. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the deliberate choice of the term "black" over "Afro-Brazilian", aiming for a more direct identification with the ethnicity and experience of these artists. This terminology highlights racial identity and the reality they experience, focusing on their artistic expressions. The choice of Greater Vitória as a focus is justified by its cultural and artistic importance in Espírito Santo, representing a significant microcosm for the exploration of racial and gender dynamics in the Brazilian artistic sphere.
