Summary: The purpose of this research is to weave reflections on the poetic processes of the Brazilian artist José Bechara, focusing on his relationship with the pictorial field, under the gaze of abstraction in the literal space of existence and experiences in paintings, which meet to the very course of doing, provoking other meanings in the field of meaning revealed in the materiality of the pictorial surface, contributing to the syntax of painting and to the process of literalization of contemporary art thinking. The artist`s creation process presents a communication with respect to matter and temporality. Therefore, the research proposes dialogues that guide the experiments in painting and aesthetic occurrences, proposing subjective reflections in relation to time, matter and memory. However, bibliographies that communicated with the field of art and philosophy were used and contextualized to propose dialogues about transience and memory. Therefore, this study points out poetic interactions in José Bechara`s creative process and how they configure with the unfolding of contemporary Brazilian painting.
