Summary: Ticumbi is a cultural practice found in the north of the State of Espírito Santo, in the cities of Conceição da Barra and Itaúnas. This practice is a cultural heritage that has devotion to Saint Benedict and goes back to the time of the slavery. This work aimed at understanding the aesthetic compositional aspects of the Ticumbi of Conceição da Barra, of Master Tertolino Balbino, especially the music of the ritual: the narratives of protest and the songs of praise. The analysis of memory and ancestry, constituent of the tradition of the cultural practice of the said group, integrally composed of black people, was also objectified. The ritual is here analyzed as a hybrid construction that incorporates elements of the religiosity of the Iberian culture (the devotion to Saint Benedict), mixed with references to Africa, perceived in many aspects that are manifested in the corporeality of manifestation. The construction of this work was made possible by the field research of cultural practice in its stages: the general rehearsal, the 31 December procession and the presentation in front of the Church of St. Benedict. In this work, I aimed to understand the network of meanings elaborated in the construction of memories and issues related to the cultural tradition, which affirms the Ticumbi as an important intangible cultural heritage, built by the quilombola communities of Sapê do Norte.
