Summary: This study aims at analysing clothing that is present in the artistic and literary work by Flavio de Carvalho. It highlights dress as a determining factor in the process of personal identification within the scenic dimension of the city. At the same time, articulations of subjectivity, temporality and corporeality make themselves present at the level of meaning and poetic competence. In the light of those, the two pieces analysed are Experiência n°2 and New Look: processions carried out in public spaces whose objective was to analyse crowd psychology. In those pieces the artist makes use of wearable elements that works as enunciating agents of those performances. The costumes for the theater play O bailado do Deus morto and the ballet A cangaceira explore the visible and legible on the costumes. They deal with the symbolic character of the clothes, the materialization of the soul and the memory of the body as well as the gender bending messages the costumes carry. Finally, the artist’s essay A importância da cauda – A comichão filogenética presents the wearing of the outfit as an organ of the body. The study aims at linking Flavio de Carvalho’s theory and praxis WHEREin wearables, or fashion, develop as a dialectic relationship between the artist, art history and its entwining with human behavior and its social, political and cultural relations.
