Summary: This work aims to study those publications that characterize as public exhibition spaces in the art field, based on an investigation over artistic proposals that deal with the propagation of the written language in an art context in Vitória – Espírito Santo (Brazil), between the decades of 1970 and 2010. If the 1960’s are known for great transformations in the territory of art including the changes on the status of the artistic object, since then it has become characteristic of the contemporary practice the participation of the artist in the critical discussions provoking the displacement of its speech towards the work’s poetics as a constitutive part of the materiality of the artistic proposal. Our hypothesis is based on that the artistic context in the city of Vitória during this period, between 1970 and 2010, produced pieces of work that questioned the exhibition and circulation traditional models, through the use of writing in publications considered as art. Therefore, we investigated the relationships between text and work of art, under the perspective of manifestations that employ writing, considering specifically the influences of conceptual practices both in the Brazilian and global production contexts. The field of art is analyzed as a discursive arena that configures itself as a public space for debates and reflections, WHERE the notion of “public” itself is constantly questioned. Lastly, the proposals of artists active in the city of Vitória, since 1970, which invest in the relationships between art and written language – presented in multiple copy publications – is researched. As the result, it is presented and analyzed some of these proposals, considering how they work within the frame of art as a site. Framing these practices as artistic publications allow us to review them under a new perspective, establishing relationships with history and art criticism, and most importantly to rethink art and the place of the artist through other conceptions and territorialities, beyond the paradigms forced by the hegemonic history, the market and the traditional models of exhibiting art such as in galleries and museums.
