Summary: This thesis investigates the unheimlich (uncanny), a concept on psychoanalysis developed by Freud, in works belonging to 4 (four) of the painter Attilio Colnago's series: "Dialogues with Passion" ("Diálogos com a Paixão"), 10+1 Dangerous Ways to Love (10 + 1 Perigosas Maneiras de Amar"), "Minas of General Liberties" ("Minas das Liberdades Gerais), "On Return to Half Truths" ("Do Retorno às Meias Verdades"). It relates the author's works which are widely know for their main characteristics such as the presence of the human figure, the interiors, the cross between the religious and the profane, and the memories to the uncanny. Such goal was made possible by research on Freud's 1919 essay "Das Unheimliche" (The Uncanny) and associated literature by other authors who have studied the uncanny, such as Nicholas Royle, Anneleen Masschelein and Anthony Vidler, who brought the concept up to date and related it to other fields of study. After said research and documental analysis, pictures of Attilio Colnago's work that showed traces of uncanny were assembled for further studying. By analysing the painter's work and unveiling a new angle from which to do so, one hopes to prove the uncanny a subject worthy of being studied in the field of fine arts
