Summary: This research aims to understand the relationship between craft, the intangible cultural heritage and the market, analyzing the influences of one over the other. To this end, we conducted a comparative case study between clay pot makers from Goiabeiras, whose occupation is recorded as intangible cultural heritage, and clay pot makers from Guarapari, have a way to make clay pot of different clay pot makers from Goiabeiras. Thus, we analyze the ways of making the two groups, the similarities and differences in the two productions, market relations, socials, politics and environmental issues involved between them and the public policies that support or not the groups surveyed. Initially we present the groups and their ways of doing of black clay pot, using the concepts of cultural heritage and craftsmanship to contextualize these productions. Then we observed the similarities and differences in these modes of production, we analyzed as happens the insertion and development of handicrafts and heritage in the market, as well as social relations between the groups of artisans; we identified the safeguard policies and major programs to encourage the craft; and we pointed out the influences and relationships between craft, intangible cultural heritage and market.
