Publication date: 20/07/2018

Summary: This research sought to make a diachronic approach between the films O anjo nasceu (1969) and Cuidado, Madame (1970, works by the Brazilian Julio Bressane, and the contemporary theory of sensoriality in cinema, developed from the 1990s by authors such as Steven Shaviro , Laura Marks, Vivian Sobchack. Theories that seek to discuss the sensory dimension of cinema and its effects on the body of the spectator, in other words, the corporeal materiality of the filmic experience. The idea is to think about how we can read those films with the perspective of a theory developed almost three decades later, in that the work of Julius Bressane invests against a whole logic of teleological cinematographic narrative and a classic mise-en-scène and even its unfolding in modern cinema.
