Summary: Reis de Boi is a cultural practice from two cities, São Mateus and Conceição da Barra, located at the north of the state of Espírito Santo. It is related to the Christmas cycle and celebrates the Three Kings. The celebration starts on the 6th of January (Epiphany and ends on the 3rd of February (Saint Blaise´s Day). Reis de Boi presents in its ritual, besides the praise, a more spirited and festive moment named Brincadeira de Boi, which allows this cultural practice to be categorized as a form of Reisado. There are complex rituals WHERE every object, parade and movement is thoroughly planned to its littlest details. The participants are mostly black people, even though the festivities have Iberian roots due to the devotion to The Three Kings. Seeking a less excludable discourse, which aims to give voice to the group members who associate their origins to the ancestors from Africa, this dissertation presents - through the analysis of the ritual within the studies of performance art - how Reis de Bois preserves symbolic and artistic elements expressed through the physical performance of its participants in order to display the contribution of the black individual in these rites. Keywords: Reis de Boi. Reisado. Cultural performance. Ritual.
