Summary: This dissertation deals with the representation of the peasant in medieval artistic objects and in the paintings of the romantic / realistic artist Jean-François Millet (1814-1875). The objectives of this research consist into establish parallels between both reproductions, common and dissonant aspects and to identify the relevance of these individuals representation in the Art, since their very low social condition would not enable it to do so. We are interested in understanding the particularities of works of arts selected. Different theoretical supports allows better understanding of them. To examine the historical context of each proposed period, the social, economic and artistic configurations are necessary for the reading of the proposed images. Due to this, it intends to enrich the field of discussion that flank the peasant theme, its resonances and its relevance in the artistic scope.
