Summary: This dissertation presents the artistic trajectory of Alex Vallauri - considered the pioneer of graffiti in Brazil. First, we analyze the historical precedents of
contemporary graffiti and draw a brief historiography about the first generation of graffiti artists from the city of São Paulo from bibliographical review and audio and video testimonies. The work of Alex Vallauri is analyzed in different techniques and supports, from the engravings made in the Santos in the late 1960's, appropriations, stamps, stencil, artists books, until the installation of the ‘Festa na Casa da Rainha do Frango Assado' at the 18th International Biennial of São Paulo. The research also investigates the relationship of Vallauri with the language of Pop Art and Kitsch. Finally, the relationship between graffiti and the city and the passers - by from the concepts of affection and city-body. Keywords: Alex Vallauri; Contemporary art; Graffiti; City; Kitsch.
