Summary: This research aims to understand the relationship between craft, the intangible cultural heritage, collective memory and identity, analyzing the influence of one over the other. Therefore, we conducted a field study among the artisans and residents of Piuma because the craft is not registered as intangible cultural heritage. Therefore, we analyzed the ways of making the group, the similarities and differences in relation to other municipalities that also produce craft shells and relations, and social policies involved Initially we present the theoretical framework used for data analysis and discussions on the collective memory. Then we observe the historical trajectory shells after the craft of the 1960s, the main differences in the municipality of Piuma and will undertake the Cultural Heritage of discussion, based on the way of seeing the artisans and residents. Finally, we analyze the parts and the relationship with the identity built from the shell crafts.
